Legendary marketer and copywriter Dan Kennedy once said this about marketing:
“A successful ad or marketing campaign will have the right message, to the right market, using the right media, at the right time.”
“And if just one of those components is wrong – it will fail.”
So let’s work on getting them right, shall we?
In the next few issues, I’ll talk about each of these four components, that, if done right, will increase the response of any marketing promos you do.
So here we go…
Do you know who your market is? You know, the ones that have a need or want your product or service.
Another way to ask it is: If you know who your market is, do they really want or need your product or service?
The answers to both of these questions is vitally important!
If you can answer the following questions, you will be in much better shape to write sales copy and a powerful offer that will get a better response than if you didn’t.
And in order to find the answers you need, you need to research, research, and then research some more.
Are they wealthy, middle-class or are they blue collar working folks?
What kind of magazines do they subscribe to?
What kinds of things keep them up at night, bugging them for answers?
What are their passions and interests?
Where do they buy from now and what kind of things do they buy?
Do they listen to certain music or radio stations?
These are the kinds of things you should know before trying to sell anything. Remember, it involves time researching them, doing surveys, and getting to know them. You’ll then have some great insights as to your market’s personalities and goals.
Then… watch your sales and profits explode, because you are now doing what almost 90% of other businesses don’t do! So take advantage of this.
You know, most businesses never spend the necessary time to do this, and as a result, they waste a significant amount of advertising dollars, either marketing the wrong product or marketing it to the wrong people.
The bottom line is…. Know who your market is. Learn as much about them as you can. Only then, can you successfully market your products to them.
