Ignore website optimization
at your own risk
First… SEO is inherently complicated, but I want you to understand why it’s important for you to grasp the basics. So here’s my simple definition without going into all the techie details.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of getting your website’s pages to attract various search engine’s attention.
You’ll notice I said “process” – because good SEO isn’t a one-time thing, it’s ongoing.
Properly optimized web pages help search engines determine what the page is all about, so it can give each page a “rank” in their search results pages (SERP).
And the big benefit to you?
Simple… the better a page is optimized for a specific topic or keyword phrase; the higher it will rank and the higher it will show up on the SERP when someone searches for you.
When a page on your website is listed on page 1 of Google for your primary keyword, it’s certainly better than page 3 or 4 or 5, simply because most people will never look past the first 2 pages of results.
Of course, page 1 rankings are always the goal, but not always attainable. There are millions of websites, competition for certain keywords is fierce, and they can only display a few websites on page 1.
But there are several techniques you should use that will improve your ranking.
For example:
- Each web page should have a descriptive, unique Page Title metatag
- Always include a short, unique Page Description metatag
- Get respected, industry-relevant websites to link to pages on your site
- Write attention-getting headlines on every web page using the H1 tag
- Write optimized web copy using the words that searchers will use to find your site AND that persuade your readers to take an action
- And more…
Of course, SEO is a science that often changes, so there are books written on the subject, and professionals who are SEO experts.
So bottom line… if you’re looking for an experienced web copywriter to write persuasive SEO web copy, page titles, or descriptions to improve your ranking…
